        The SSCC was founded in 1967 to serve evergrowing  educational needs of unprivileged and underprivileged sections of the society.  Dr. Panjabrao  Deshmukh and Dalitmitra Pandharinath Patil came together to establish this institution under the banner of Shri Shivaji Education Society , Amravati.  Adv. R. D. Bhonde ‘Sarkar’ and Santoshrao alis Appasaheb Patil ,then MLA took effort to establish it.  The several socio-political leaders and common man, farmers contributed well in this sacred and holy task.

    The College has completed 45 glorious years, blazing a trail of excellence.  The institute owes its glory to the vision of our founders, the committed leadership of the management, the sincere dedication of the staff both teaching and non-teaching ,tens of thousands of all those young persons who have passed out of the portals of the institute and funds of goodwill from all our well wishers and community at large.

    The institute strive for academic excellence and tries to create an environment which generate love for learning, a habit of critical thinking and evaluation so that the human kind’s store of knowledge is enlarged.  The aim of the college as enunciated by the first Principal Late S.M. Wankhede was to train the students to become good profession and citizens.

    Firstly, Shri Shivaji Science and Arts College, Chikhli was affiliated to the Nagpur University, Nagpur up to 30^th April 1983. Later on, it is affiliated to the newly established Amravati University, Amravati which is now known as Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati.

    The College Central Library is an important component of educational park of Chikhli. The Central Library has started its functioning at college building since from its establishment in the year of 1967. The library is situated in the heart of the college campus. It is on a hillock surrounded by the beautiful trees and greenery. The carpet area of the library building is 60 X 30 Sq. Fts. The building has the capacity of stacking near about fifty thousand books and can accommodate near about 50 readers in its two reading rooms.

    Library is one of the most significant needs of the education. The users of the library can use the subject relevant books, journals, periodicals and other informative resources within the library timings. The College library has a rich collection of textbooks, reference books, competitive examinations books, journals and periodicals. The Library is the home study for the study for the education seekers and the teachers, researchers, etc.

    The library has the open access for the teachers and research scholars and PG students. The library is adopting Dewey Decimal Classification system for classifying the resources and these books are arranged subject-wise on stacks. The library has more than 37000 + Books and is subscribing near about 92 including gratis journals and periodicals for the library.

    The library is partially computerized using SOUL 2.0 Software which is designed and developed by INFLIBNET, Ahmedabad an IUC of University Grants Commission, New Delhi. The library provides free Internet access to the students, research scholars, teaching faculties and non-teaching staff as well as other users also. The library is subscribing for the N-LIST programme of INFLIBNET and at present 6,000 + e-Journals and 97,000 + e-Books as online e-resources for the users through Internet.
